Digital Cloisters – A Campus for the 21st century

Porous communal areas, natural oases, maker spaces and robotically- assembled brick facades feature in CRA’s schematic design for the University of Milan’s new Science Campus, developed with Australian developer Lendlease. International design and innovation practice CRA-Carlo RattiAssociati has worked with Australian real estate group Lendlease to develop the schematic design for the University of Milan’s new Science Campus, Science for Citizens. The design proposes a rethink of the traditional university court or cloister, with maker spaces and parametric brick facades assembled by robots.

Aedas-designed Lè Architecture in Taipei, Taiwan, received the most public votes for Commercial-Office – High Rise (16+ Floors) and won Architizer A+ Popular Choice Awards 2018. This year the highly publicised campaign received over 400,000 public votes from more than 100 countries and territories.

Touching the Green: An Award Winning Urban Design Project by PDG Architects

Beylikduzu Municipality Cumhuriyet Street Urban Design Project, designed by PDG Architects, is turning a public space into an open air museum and has aimed to obtain products that are important to humanity and which are not unscaled. Around the idea “Touching the green”, the project has been aimed to create the balance between the green pattern and the settlement. The Kiosk Structure, which has constructed at the first stage of the urban design project, has been awarded with Architect Turgut Cansever National Architecture Awards.

Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) announced 2018 finalists

Six finalist projects in Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and the United States
At an event in Detroit, Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (MCHAP) Director Dirk Denison and 2018 MCHAP Jury Chair Ricky Burdett announced the six finalists for the 2018 Americas Prize:

  • IMS Paulista in São Paulo, Brazil by Andrade Morettin Arquitetos Associados
  • Completed: September 2017

This multi-level, stacked cultural building with galleries, library, and cinema on São Paulo’s iconic Paulista Avenue brings the public and pedestrian experience into the structure.

Norman Foster visits Amaravati

Lord Foster met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his team on his visit to Andhra Pradesh to oversee the next stage of design development of the governmental complex of the new state capital, Amaravati. Foster + Partners is designing the central focus of the 217-square-kilometre city, including the design of two key buildings: Legislature Assembly and High Court Complex, along with several secretariat buildings.

Norman Foster becomes President of The Royal Fine Art Commission Trust

Lord Foster of Thames Bank O.M. has been appointed President of the Royal Fine Art Commission Trust, with effect from 15 January 2018.

Announcing the appointment, the charity’s Chairman, Lord Palumbo, said:
“We are delighted that Norman Foster has agreed to serve as our President. Britain’s most eminent architect, renowned across the world as a master of his profession, he combines huge accomplishments with a laser-sharp strategic vision of how our cities should develop. We look forward to working with him to help ensure that the good design is seen across the country, especially in the context of the Northern Powerhouse, as something that both creates and enhances economic growth”.
